MRes Social Research and Social Justice
Informed by my experience of ancestral religions around the world, my research project at the University of East London is looking into the practice of ancestral conscious in the British Isles. Who practices and what does engagement with ancestors look like here? Hoping to garner insights beyond racially delineated narratives, preliminary findings show ancestral connections that span the human and more than human world, with practitioners orienting through connection - some to other people living and dead, some to elements, to ideas and/or to a spiritually conscious way of understanding the world
Ritual Excel (Ebo Iwa)
In 2019, a small group of participants were invited to Ritual Excel. As well as prototype sessions, the programme included 6 sessions integrating ancestral wisdom into pillars of modern life, spanning themes of self-love, family, community etc. In 2026/beyond, infused with learnings from ancestral work and creative practice development, Mara and Eli (Eli Anderson, Storyaid.uk) intend to reformulate the space.
